Podemos ver a Arari que progrediu, que melhorou. Essa primeira \u00e9 de autoria do engenheiro HENRI DE SAINT&#8217;AMAND, que esteve em Arari, em 1855, por haver sido encarregado para tirar a CARTA HIDROGR\u00c1FICA do rio Mearim. Segundo avalia\u00e7\u00e3o do pesquisador, <em>&#8220;Arari \u00e9 uma povoa\u00e7\u00e3o que me parece poder conter quarenta ou cinquenta casas , algumas das quais s\u00e3o de telha e bem constru\u00eddas&#8221;<\/em>. No \u00faltimo recorte de jornal, j\u00e1 de volta da explora\u00e7\u00e3o do rio Mearim, ele agradece a todos que o hospedaram e ajudaram na miss\u00e3o, ressaltando o nome do arariense JOS\u00c9 ANTONIO FERNANDES. A pesquisa por ele realizada, sobre ARARI, foi publicada no jornal Seman\u00e1rio Maranhense, que circulou no dia 1\u00ba de mar\u00e7o de 1868.
